So, Osaka is a pretty cool city, extremely expensive though! It's apparently the 4th most expensive city in the world. At this stage I can't agree with that. Anyway, quite fortunately for me I met a couple of girls at the airport before I left Korea who were going to Japan for the same purpose that I was, so we decided to do everything that needed to be done together. We thought that if we got lost together it would be better and we would feel less stupid than if we got lost by ourselves.
My next problem was finding a hotel to stay in, for starters I didn't have my passport on me, it was at the consulate for my visa and every hotel I went to wanted to see my passport, which I didn't have. Also, they cost way more than what I had been given by my boss to pay for accommodation. In the end, we managed to talk the people at the hotel Courtney was staying at to give me a room as well, it cost twice as much as the director gave me to pay for it (am currently working on getting the extra dosh out of her, as have come to the conclusion that she didn't want to book it before I left because, she thought it was too expensive and she wanted to trick me into paying extra!) Not gonna work however!
Well, we then went to this German bar that was really expensive and ate food that didn't reduce our hunger at all. So after that it was like 5.30 so we found a great Japanese restraunt and I had the best chicken that I have ever eaten in my life.
Oh, there was also this really cool ferris wheel attached to the side of a building with a buncj of neon lights and stuff, we didn't go on it though as it was cold and we didn't have much money.
In the end we went back to our hotels, where I took the first bath that I have had in 6 months or more, as it was the first bath that I have seen in that time (not that I mind showers but just had to have a bath). Unfortunately, I had by this time been awake for 2 days, so the heat just made me incredibly sleepy, consquently I almost fell asleep in the bath, so decided I should get out before I dropped my book in it. Then I still couldn't stay awake so I flaked out before 9pm.
Wednesday, we had intended to go to Osaka Castle but it was pissing down with rain and we would have had to walk a fair distance to the subway station and our feet were already wet (my new boots are apparently not water proof, bugger!). So we ended up sitting in a cafe across the road from the consulate drinking coffee. We met a Palestinian and a German there, they were the owners of a ship that exported cars to Vladivostock, rather interesting guys they were too, so we talked to them for a while.
At 1.30 we picked up our visas and went back to the train station to catch the train to the airport, got on the wrong train though, it still went to the airport but we ended up having to pay anextra 500 yen each to stay on it. It was faster than the cheap train!
Got to the airport checked in, did some shopping, had to buy something to show that I had been to Japan. Flew back to Korea, almost missed the bus back to Gwangju, only made it with a couple of minutes to spare. Walked home from the bus terminal so got there about 12.30 am this morning.
Then got up and came to work today. More good news is that the 11 books I ordered on amazon also arrived today so I now have something to read.
Am going home now as I am damn tired.
later all!
